My journey at CARTO
I was one of the first design hires for the company. The design team at CARTO was a horizontal team across the company. We were in charge of every single visual the company put out there. From a in-house team presentation, to investors deck or custom B2B solutions.
CartoDB -> CARTO, the rebranding.
The rebranding process started with research and discovery. We did a recap about who were our competitors and their positioning. We knew we were slightly different, and we wanted to show that in the brand.
We worked in key brand touchpoints such as the company website, marketing materials, and product interfaces. The goal was to create a consistent and cohesive visual identity that conveyed the company's values and mission.
The Brand
The rebranding was well received by both employees and customers, and it helped to better position CARTO as a leader in the geospatial data analysis industry.
CARTO Builder
CARTO Builder is a geospatial data analysis tool that allows users to create custom maps, analyze data, and share insights with others. The design process for CARTO Builder started with a deep dive into user research to understand the needs and pain points of our target audience.
Designing a geospatial analysis tool
One of the key challenges we faced was creating a user-friendly interface for non-technical users who wanted to create custom maps and analyze data. To address this challenge, we designed a simple and intuitive workflow that made it easy for users to navigate the tool and get the insights they needed.
We created a clean and engaging interface that allowed users to easily understand and analyze the data. We also worked with our engineering team to implement performance optimization techniques to ensure the tool was fast and responsive, even when working with complex data workflows.
Flexible Design System
This involved creating a set of design guidelines, components, and patterns that could be reused across the product. This not only helped to ensure consistency across the product but also made it easier and faster for our team to design and develop new features.
